- How do I open the downloaded file(s) ?
- Files are packed in various formats. Some of the most popular formats (file extensions) you will see are ZIP, RAR, ACE, BIN/CUE, IMG, TAR, ISO and NRG.
- WinRAR is one of the most popular file compressing applications today. It can open most types of compressed files.
- There are different applications available, depending on what you want to do with the downloaded files. Files ending in IMG, BIN/CUE, ISO and NRG are usually copies (also known as "images") of CDs. To burn these CD images onto CDs, we suggest using Nero Burning ROM. If you would prefer to install the image without having to burn it onto a CD first, then we suggest Daemon Tools. Daemon Tools (fools your computer into beliveing) emulates the image file on to a fake CD/DVD drive, allowing you to install the image contents.
- Can I get any viruses?
- Third-party links that you visit from our site may contain popups or auto-installing files, but these can be blocked by upgrading to Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and Service Pack 2 for Windows XP (click here). Or, you can switch to a more secure (and free) browser, like Firefox.
- If you think that your computer has been infected, then please install Anti-Virus software. If you do not currently have Anti-Virus software and would like to scan your computer for viruses for free, then use either Panda's ActiveScan (click here) or Trend Micro's HouseCall (click here). also suggested are Kaspersky or NOD32.
- It is possible that a site may be distributing files containing some sort of malware (without our knowledge, ofcourse). If you come across suspicious files in ZIP or RAR files you've downloaded, please let us know along with the exact URL of the page and file(s). We will inspect the file(s) and ban the site if indeed found to contain malware.
